Preparing for that new roof

Preparing for a new roof on your home is an anxiety-riddled and exciting situation however, many homeowners don’t know what to expect or how to prepare for a new roof.

Here’s a bit of what to expect to ensure the whole process goes as smooth as possible.

  1. Up and at it with the sun: We like to start early in the morning; around 7 am for most jobs in the summer. Crews prefer to get started as early as they can to ensure safety in the heat and time to “dry-in” before the afternoon heat produces any storms. You do not need to be home during the roofing installation. Generally, we only need access to power (if available). If you are a 3rd shifter, please let us know so we can work with your schedule as much as possible.
  2. You may want to move your vehicles: Oh no, it’s not out of worry of flying debris; we need a place to unload or for the supplier to get close to roof-load all or some of the materials. The Crew will also need access to the driveway to place the dump trailer or our gutter trailer close to the house. Star Improvements of MI utilizes Equipters to get close to the home. This lessens the amount of clean-up and protects your yard whenever possible. Check out one of our videos about the Equipters on our Youtube channel!
  3. Move Outdoor Furniture/Home Décor: During the initial tear off of the roof, workers may be throwing old shingles and debris to the ground. The crew will protect what we reasonably can by placing tarps and plywood over your plants and windows. Try as we might, accidents happen. We suggest moving any patio furniture, garden décor, etc., away from the work area to prevent the risk of damage. This also ensures that our crews don’t have any tripping hazards while they are working.
  4. Prepare those pets:  Pets can be bothered by the noise of construction and anxious of strangers around the home. Plan to keep pets in a room where noise is limited, or even a couple day doggie vacation with family or friends might be warranted. We understand your dogs may need to go outside into the work area to do their business. Star Improvements wants to keep your furry friends safe. Let a crew foreman know when you need to let pets outside.
  5. Shoes required:  When we do a roof tear off, there will be nails on the ground no matter how hard we try to avoid it. If you wish to be outside and watch the magic happen, please wear shoes. Make sure children do so as well. We always go over the yard and driveway with a strong magnetic roller to get those cleaned up. We will work with you to choose where you can safely enter & exit your home without worrying about falling debris or any other potential hazards.

At Star Improvements of MI we have the expertise and experience to walk you through the entire process. To get in contact with one of our team, give us a call at 989-823-7283 or click here to set up an estimate.
